Theaterplatz in Dresden, featuring the Semperoper and statue of King John, is one Germany’s most important architectural treasures. Known as the third opera house, the moving history of the Semperoper tells of destruction followed by an even more magnificent reconstruction. On February 13, 1985, 40 years after its destruction during the war, the Semperoper reopened with a grand celebration. The first Royal Court Theatre by Gottfried Semper, considered the “most beautiful theater in the world,” hosted its inaugural performances in 1841.
For several years, LED spotlights have bathed the impressive circular structure of the Semperoper in a warm white glow at night – a perfect example of how modern lighting technology can illuminate buildings and spaces beautifully and sustainably.
